Chat

Chat is where you work with Soma cross areas like leadership, culture, change management, facilitation and team dynamics.

Use it to prepare for a difficult conversation, plan a workshop, examine a team pattern, or test a decision before you act. You can keep each topic in its own conversation and return to it later.

  1. Open Chats in the top navigation.
  2. Select New to start a conversation, or open an existing conversation from the list.
  3. Write your message and press Enter. Use Shift+Enter for a new line.

You will get better results when you include the decision, people, constraints, and outcome that matter. For example:

  • “Help me prepare for a one-to-one with a team lead who has stopped challenging decisions.”
  • “Design a 45-minute retrospective for eight people after a difficult launch.”
  • “What assumptions am I making about the tension between Product and Sales?”

Soma can use several kinds of context while answering:

  • Your current conversation provides the immediate thread.
  • Memory can surface relevant details from earlier conversations.
  • Pages ground responses in private and group documents.
  • Attachments bring images, PDFs and text files into a message.
  • The knowledge base provides material on leadership, culture, group dynamics and facilitation.

To put a specific page into the conversation, type @ in the composer, search for the page, and select it. The page appears as a mention in your message. This is useful for strategy notes, meeting agendas, team agreements, and project briefs.

You can mention more than one page. Pages marked Hidden from Soma are not available to her.

Soma also starts each chat knowing the most-read pages you can reach, the workspace’s most-used skills, and its most recent reports. She can find and read other pages and reports you have access to when a conversation calls for them.

Attach a file when Soma should work from material you already have, such as a slide deck, survey export, org chart, or screenshot.

  1. Open the + menu in the composer.
  2. Select Add images, PDFs or CSVs and choose your files.
  3. Write your message and send it with the files.

You can attach:

  • Images — PNG, JPEG, WebP, or GIF, up to 20 MB
  • PDFs — up to 20 MB and 100 pages
  • Text files — CSV, TXT, or Markdown, up to 1 MB

A message can include up to five files. Attachments stay with their conversation and are stored in your workspace’s data region; deleting the conversation removes them.

When Soma searches for supporting context, a short activity appears in the conversation, such as Searching memories, Searching the knowledge base, or Reading context pages. Expand the activity to see more about the lookup.

This makes it easier to tell whether an answer is based on your material, remembered context, or Somas specialist knowledge.

When you ask for help planning a meeting or workshop, Soma can recommend an activity from her facilitation library.

Activities are divided into the following categories:

  • openers
  • energizers
  • connection
  • teaching practicies
  • workshop exercises
  • wild cards
  • closers

Recommendations appear as cards with:

  • duration
  • group size
  • in-person or online format
  • when to use the activity
  • step-by-step instructions

Ask for the constraints that matter: “I need an online opener for 20 people in under 10 minutes” is more useful than “Give me an icebreaker.”

  • Your chats are private to you within the workspace.
  • Text is de-identified before storage. Workspace privacy settings control which categories of sensitive data Soma can read in clear form.
  • Password-protected PDFs cannot be attached.
  • Attachments are not available in workforce session interviews.
  • Group mentions are not currently available.
  • Memory explains how context from earlier conversations can return.
  • Pages covers the documents you can mention in chat.
  • Knowledge base describes the specialist material and facilitation resources Soma can search.
  • Privacy explains de-identification and workspace sharing controls.
